|Last week German fisherman Michael Eisele caught a record breaking 47 kilo Atlantic Cod (103 lbs) off the island Sørøya in northern Norway. It broke the long standing 44 kilo (98 lbs)Atlantic cod record, caught off the Isle of Shoals in 1969. |
Breaking this record was only a matter of time, as longline fishermen in arctic Norway have landed several fish weighing over 50 kilos (110 lbs) over the past years.
The fish was caught on a 10" soft plastic lure ocwe 230 feet of water.
For next winter/spring I am arranging an expedition to the area to target one of these gigantic fish on fly. I have gathered several marks where fish in the 50+lbs category gather on depths accessible to well tuned fly gear. Will keep you all posted. For now, here are some pics of the new all tackle record fish.
