|I hadn't shared a skiff with Steve Cali since around 2008. Well it was long past time to get out again together. We met at Casa De Fruta at 6:30 a.m. and were heading across the lake by a bit after 7:00 a.m. |
The wind was up a tad out of the west but it was predicted it would glass off around 9 or so. It did.
Fishing was slow until around 11:30 and then the bite really picked up. We ended up with lots of nice, fat schoolies from 3 to 5 pounds with a couple of follows by better fish which kept our hopes up for a Moe.
Water temps were the same as they were last Sunday when I was out with my grandson - 62 on my graph. We used the same type of lines - my with 28-feet of RIO CC T-14 and Steve was tossing a head of LC13 with mono shooting line. We both were using a 1/0 white/tan Farrar Blend FT jig hook Clouser. I think you could have caught them on just about any medium-sized baitfish pattern though.
We had a long, fun day getting off the water around 4:30 - we left while they were still biting, having had enough. Man was I tired (and sore) when I got home.
It was a fun time and I hope Steve and I won't wait so long to share a skiff again.
