Whether or not it's anathema, think about this: those holes you see in Red Rock were drilled by mercury miners during the Gold Rush, and plenty of other heavy metals and pollutants are still tainting the Bay from refineries and other sources as well. Those "keeper"-size stripers may not have fed in Bay waters long enough to have accumulated much of these pollutants, but the Fish & Wildlife Department still warns about eating stripers caught in the Bay. So this is another reason favoring release.
