|For almost 25 years there have been a bunch of fly tyers that meet each fall at North Toledo Bend State Park, Louisiana to tie flies... North Toledo Bend Rendezvous..|
About 20 years ago one Sunday, as Rendezvous wound down a few of us gathered at the park's launch before heading our separate ways. There were also several bass clubs gathered on little hill above the launch checking out each arriving bass boat for any tournament members who had caught ANY bass, as the weather was not cooperating and these guys were fishless... i.e. ANY bass would win the ALL THE MONEY!
At that time one of our tyers, noted, Little Missouri River, Arkansas guide Jeff Guerin launched his canoe and started to work the area near the boat launch with a large popper.
The bass guys thought that this was hilarious. They made many "nasty" comments to each other about "that -------- fly fisherman", which of course Jeff heard ... and ignored.
During this time, the last bass boat came in and no one won the prize money... and the derisive comments got louder and meaner...
But then Jeff, who was about 40 y-50 yards offshore, caught 5 lb. bass. He landed it; held it up for all to see; kissed it and released it. The bass guys went nuts!
