Lee as you well know there could be so many variables with permit & bonefish that generally speaking many occasions may require split second instincive action. I personally try to focus on the fish & it's path & behavior when permit/bonefish fishing & the casting & presentation is second nature sort of speak and comes from experience/practise , feel of the line load on the rod and hopefuly accurate calculation . On some mottled bottom , not to mention clouds , wind & chop, in some cases if you blink or take your eyes off the fish for a split second you may not be able to pick it up again .
I personally think that one of the most exciting aspects of the game is the element of surprise and no matter how prepared we may be, there are many occasions when you don't have time to do anything else but to rely on instinct & reaction.
