You nailed my experience and complaints about using the standard OB lines - I hated the extra length for any fishing that I do on a regular basis. They were too much work and required a lot more skill to handle the extreme overhang needed to cast them properly. They were a specialty line designed for northwest beach fishing for salmon. The reason RIO came out with the OBS is because so many of us bitched about the standard OB. My average client just couldn't handle those lines, especially with a large fly.
I haven't tried the OBS on my 6-weight two-hander - I haven't tried anything on it yet. But I have two Skagit lines that I'm cutting 10 feet off the tips, putting braided loops on so I can add 10 to 15 feet of T-14 for sink tips if needed.
I will also give the rod a test drive with a RIO OBS line to see if it will get the job done.
