Some backing holds salt more tenaciously than others. Teflon-impregnated micron/dacron backing specifically designed for saltwater doesn't absorb and retain saltwater like untreated backing. I don't know if GSP is available with a hydrophilic matrix.
My experience is that timing is a much better preventative of corrosion than chemicals. A good freshwater rinse of a reel IMMEDIATELY at the end of EVERY day of fishing the salt is much more effective than applying any patent corrosion preventer the next week or even the next morning.
It's that very first hole in the protective coating which must be avoided. Once that first corrosion site occurs then the physics of oxidation take over.
