I feel like your enjoyment of the pole dancer is what makes being a fly tier so much fun.I am glad that you have had success with it and hope it continues to work well for you.
Being a successful top water fisherman takes a real steadfast dedication to staying with it. I have stuck with it and had tough days with a fair amount of disappointment but when it works, it is nearly like magic.
When Lee Haskin and Capt KD got me into top water striper fishing, it was not uncommon to have plenty of mornings like you had over the weekend. The main difference was that the fish were on the average, much larger. The takes these days seem to be few and far between sometimes. So glad you got into them as you did.
My best striper to date was somewhere in the #50 class and believe it or not I have missed several like that while fishing early prototypes of the pole dancer. I nearly crapped myself each and every time. It is really something to see a 6 foot round up welling behind you fly and then booooosh. The take of a lifetime. I was always guilty of pulling the fly away from them. Dammit!!!!!!!!
I will, like you keep trying and a big girl will make a mistake one of these days and I will do my best to be patient on the hook set.
I am very proud of you for sticking with it.
