Yeah, and it's interesting to read about the different "acceptable activities" back in those days. He hunted manatees and crocodiles with a small harpoon and a wooden skiff. They would harpoon the critters, let them tow the skiff all over creation until it tired, then try to capture the beast to sell to a zoo. In the same chapter Dimock laments the critical number of egrets remaining after the demand for their feathers nearly wiped out the rookeries and egret population. Another interesting book in the same vain is 'Under a Panther Moon'.
