Unless I catch a fish, clean it, and cook it myself I have little confidence in the species it is purported to be and even less confidence in its freshness or level of contamination.
The only Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) I am sure I have eaten were landlocks which I caught, cleaned and cooked. Some of them had been gorging on sawbellies (Alosa pseudoharengus). The salmon smelled so bad while cooking both the fish and I were thrown out of the house.
I doubt the bad taste, smell, or contagion of farmed salmon will rescue or destroy wild salmon and their habitat.
