Have you tried Suffix monofilament? It's less stiff than your Rio but has a bit more body (and way less stretch) than Amnesia. Shoots like a dream.
As everyone else has said, everything is a compromise. I love mono in a controlled environment (shooting basket, kept wet), but when the line is getting flaked onto a deck, or even worse, into the water a coated running line is less of a pain. When wading without a basket (which is almost always) I like floating coated line so that it doesn't have to be pulled up from under the water with each cast.
