I agree with Ray--bring the fish in, have markings on your rod, and do it quickly.

Fumbling around with a tape measure and the extra time involved, along the the extra handling of the fish, will put undue stress on the fish. If you're 1/2" or an inch off on the fish's length, no big deal. You saw it, and you remember it.
