Flexible seamstress tape is the way to go. You can quickly get nose to fork. When you get a real big boy, you can also use it for girth. At Andros (and the Keys) girth is what makes the genuine double digit weight fish. A 27 incher with a 14 inch girth is under 10 -- the same length with a 15-16 girth tops 10. good luck.
