I had a 50# spinner take a measured 390yds of backing from me on the first run. One solid long zzzzz on the Mako. It fought harder than any 100# tarpon I've caught. I was using a Cam Sigler 13-14 weight Bluewater rod. And they're fished with a floating line! The biggest problem is that the fishery is very weather (especially wind) dependent. We only seriously pursued them one day out of the five we had booked. Brutal east winds sent us inside for the other four days (and even part of the fifth.) Great fish. I know Andy Mill has decided they're worth his time.
