I use 80# fluoro for most tarpon. Years ago we all used mono. The fluoro is best for my application due to the fact it can be hand straightened and is far more abrasion resistant than mono. When it comes to tarpon that's really all I am looking for as tarpon have a very abrasive mouth and over the course of a long fight it can and will become chaffed. Fluoro's hard outer surface holds up extremely well. The strength is of little importance given the fact that I use 16lb. in the class tippet.
I use Orvis fluoro due to the fact it is actually a bit thinner than others.
