|Yesterdays' return to Lake "O" was a well earned respite from two hard days of back country rock and boulder hopping. It was a return to fishing in the shadows of volcanos and Louie out classed me again with 7 or 8 to my 2. I'm OK with that because each of the two I that I did catch fought extremely well and would have been a wall hanger at home and nearly any where else on the planet. Not only that, the lake fishing lessons learned are invaluable. Louie is a fishing machine. Twenty years of guiding and fishing in New Zealand has given him a seemingly endless bag of tricks to dig into on difficult days. The most unique is "globuggery". It really "buggers" them trout and you'll have to contact "The Fish" himself... and maybe even fish with him... if you want to find out more about it.|
Line for the day: "Endeavor to persevere."
Today we visited a lake where people are encouraged to take fish. It's a wonder that any trout at all can survive in a place where there is no bag limit, but we caught fish all day long. We ended up "culling" five fish each of which I would have been proud to have called my biggest of the year. On the way back to the dock we trolled flies four two and a half doubles.
Line for the day: Louie... after hearing a fish rise nearby…"That definitely means something or another... and I'm willing to stake my shaky reputation on it." Picture yourself intently concentrating on fishing and the having that line delivered dead pan. It takes a while for it to sink in.
