While the Lesser amberjack is shorter and deeper than a Greater Amberjack, the one you're holding is much deeper and shorter than either. It sure looks like an Almaco, although Almaco jacks are an Atlantic species which may have migrated to the Pacific side years ago through the Panama canal.

I've caught a good number of the jack you are holding around the Loreto region over the years. I've also caught Greater amberjack and they are nothing alike. Yellowtail are sometimes mistaken for Greater amberjack.

I looked in several of my fish I.D. books and couldn't come up with anything for sure.
