Sacramento – Senator Tom Berryhill (R-Twain Harte) announces the introduction of Senate Bill 583, a measure that creates a fishing license that would be good for 12 consecutive months, regardless of purchase date.
“It makes sense to give people an option to buy a 12 consecutive month license. Right now if you purchase the license in June you are paying for a full year but only using it for half of the year,” said Berryhill. “I think people should have the option to pay a little more for a 12-consecutive month license. It just seems fair and makes it easier for the Fisherman.”
Currently California anglers have three options when purchasing sport fishing licenses: one calendar year, 2-day, and a one-day license. The Fish and Game code also allows for the sale of an annual license as well as a 10-day license to nonresidents. This measure would call for a 12 consecutive month license for a modest fee.
“I am a fisherman myself. When you get an opportunity to fish somewhere great, you want to get in your truck and go, not have to line up a new fishing license because the one you bought 5 months ago – for full price - is no good anymore,” Berryhill concluded.
Senator Berryhill represents the counties of Fresno, Madera, Mariposa, San Joaquin, Stanislaus and Tuolumne. As a result of redistricting, he also services the needs of citizens from Amador, Calaveras, Inyo, Mono, Tulare and parts of Sacramento.
