I don't have a dog in this hunt; specially since I don't own a 10 weight Xi3, or ANY Xi3 (damn nice sticks).
If I go to the Keys for tarpon (not so much of that lately), I use a #12 unless it's a baby nursery; specifically, that's a "System 12 (SA)" also known as the "great equalizer", or even better, the SAGE 12 weight S-glass rod; considerably nicer to cast, than the SA.
I still have Lefty Kreh's first Salt water fly fishing book; and I still remember exactly what he said in it, about the role of 10 weight rods in salt water fly fishing.

No, I'm not going to tell you what he said; today's rods are not yesterday's rods, and I'm sure Lefty thinks differently about today's rods and yesterday's rods. He says the SA system 12 is the worst casting fly rod ever designed; and he designed it; and I don't agree with him; he just didn't put a #14 line on it. Casts just fine with a #14 or #15 line.
But as I said, my dog isn't in this hunt.
