Peter, I've seen the "interrupted itinerary" language in the policies I've bought for birding trips to Ecuador, Peru, Panama and Costa Rica, and I am extremely skeptical of one's ability to collect much more than the prepaid fee for the cancelled activity-meaning the tour to the ruins, the canoe ride through the jungle etc. Fishing guides, in my experience, don't have written contracts you can waive in an insurance company's face when trying to collect, and I am sure the insurance companies shudder at the prospect of abuse for claims for "lost" fishing days.I'd have happily taken your case,(had your purchased such a policy)but I suspect the fees would have far outweighed the potential recovery-and there's no assurance the insurance company would lose...Nevertheless, I would be interested to know if anyone has ever collected for lost fishing days-and the non refundable car rental fees and rebooking fees and additional airfare, in a situation like yours where the guide cancelled mid trip for non safety reasons, especially in the sport specific insurance policies you refer to, as well as in the more general trip insurance policies.. Perhaps a call to the people at Squaremouth is in order--I will report my results here after I've had a chance to call them.
