doc- i hear ya brother. Living in MI, like you I often travel to get to the salt. Having been doing that for years I classify those type of trips as "high risk". If you hit it right, it's epic but you are as likely to be stuck at the dock and there really is so much drinking I can stand....

I can sight a number of personal examples where the high risk has paid off and an equal number where the bar bill was insane.

I have been fishing w guides outta FL and Venice who are ok w/ scrubbing the mission based on conditions looking poor for 1/2 the trip time. Been fishing w/ them for a while, kinda paying dues and we work the rebook dates alot. The airlines will credit your unused ticket price for the most part particularly SWA (if they service your home port) and there are no change fees....
