First, if you have excessive miles on it (even if you have not used it a lot lately), it will burn more oil than when new. This is obvious. For cars, such as the Honda Accord, a quart every 1000 miles is considered normal, but it is NOT common. That said, it is common enough that it is a common complaint.

Your motor is possibly based on the Honda Accord motor?

Also, if the motor does not have a leak and the cylinder head is working properly after it's repair, then burning oil is not necessarily a bad thing. Old BMW's were designed to burn a bit more oil than many cars and this was because it was considered helpful for lubrication within the cylinder.

Having said all of that, using Occam's Razor, the principal that simpler explanations are more likely to be the truth then complex theories, I would have your compression checked when you have a chance to take your boat in for service. I say this because my first guess is that your cylinder head work seems the most likely culprit.

Good luck,

Dave
