Thanks Marcus,

Your perspective certainly makes me feel better and your points do have merit. I hadn't thought of it that way. However, I do think leaving my motor raised all the time may have contributed to corrosion since it's likely not all of the water drained from the water jackets and corrosion and fouling took place. Electrolysis was a factor too; I suspect.

Question: When I had my on-board charger hooked up each day after fishing, and sometimes plugged in for 3 or 4 weeks before the next trip (this year), I never turned the Perko switch to off. I think this may have caused some electrolysis to occur since the motor wasn't isolated from the battery system. Should I always open the Perko (to off) when charging the batteries? I'm thinking I should. With the Perko off there should be no current (charged wires) connecting to the motor or back-feeds.

The in-boat charger is hooked directly to the batteries and does not route through the Perko switch.

Thanks,

Dan
