Dan - for what it's worth I think you had a normal or even good service life... 14 years of guiding and starting and stopping, running 4500 rpm+ everywhere, 150-200+ days a year, is very good! 1800 hours for your type of use is very good. Most bass boat engines never hit 1800 hours and your type of engine use is similar running between spots, etc...

Imagine if you spent 8 hours a day trolling on the main motor, how many hours would you have then? I bet you'd still have gotten 14 years out of it...but you'd be well over 5,000 hours.

It's not about hours as much as it is days IMO...Those commercial/government guys that see 5,000-20,000 hours on motors are never shutting them down except for maintenance, and the motors are often being run 24/7 or nearly so. They can get 10,000 hours in 2 years easily.

If it's not too late, perhaps check out the ETEC 115HO, that thing is a beast...I want one!!! You'd get 50MPH+ out of it... with less weight on your transom, equal or better fuel economy, and quieter. Also no more oil changes.

Marcus
