Let me add that not all ten weights are up to the task. For instance, the TFO BVK is not a muskie rod, but the TiCr and TiCrx are fine. The Beulah Guide series is not up to the task, but the Beulah Bluewater 10/11 might be the best of all muskie rods at this point. You need something with a very strong butt and isn't too tippy in action.

I also used to use 80# fluorocarbon as my bite tippet. However, in 2011 I lost a very nice fish on 60# FC so I moved up to 80# this year. While fishing the Upper Mississippi with well known guide Bob White I lost what we both thought was a 50" fish when it bit through my 80# SeaGuar. Back to the wire. Later in the fall when I fished with Lucky Porter of Muskie Country Outfitters and told him the story, he said that he and Brad had switched over also, as they had lost six nice fish on heavy FC just this year. I think I mentioned it before here, but I'm in the process of trying to put together a leader that will use titanium wire for a tippet. The wire is fantastic, but the connections are a nightmare. I'm going to figure it out before I do any fishing this fall. No more FC. You work too hard to get one of those things to hit to have him bite you off within seconds.
