Over the years many, including myself, have caught steelhead off the breakwater jetties at Santa Cruz harbor and at the Moss Landing and in the Elkhorn Slough tidal estuary during summers, fall and winter - granted not a lot but a fair number. I believe they hug the shore in fall and winter as they migrate toward natal rivers and streams.

That said, the numbers in the surf can't be that great or those dedicated surf anglers like Mark would be scoring a lot more of them. I think of where they range and feed in the ocean is one of the great mysteries - one we probably shouldn't solve...
