You simply can't judge a fish's weight from a photo. Wide angle lenses can make a fish look smaller or much larger, depending upon the angle of the shot. Even if the lens is held at perfect right angles to the subject, a wide angle lens will make a fish look much smaller - just like wide angle mirrors do.

If not scale is available, length and girth it and use the standard formula.

I'm sure Rob has seen enough big PL trout to call them pretty close.
