Phil, Yes, thanks for reminding me to mention the point of the fly. The weighting is there specifically to cause the fly to dart. The chenille, deceiver hackles and bucktail top are slick enough in the water to allow for the best action. Use of synthetic materials such as cactus chenille or synthetic hair greatly diminishes the action. This bums me out because I love all of the options with modern synthetics. (as a side note, I'll post some patterns for huge deceivers and Clouser later on with my favorite synthetics). But, that said, one of Dan's current favorite materials "Baitfish Emulator Flash" is a synthetic supple enough that it will work for the body as a substitute for the chenille. I tie this fly in size 2 and size 2/0, which are my most often used sizes. I use EC413 hooks and Targus Jig hooks and The Fly Shop jig hooks. Dave
