|Well - I made 12 hour drive north to the Olympic Peninsula and found that alot of other people had similar plans. Motels nearly full, boats and rafts on most vehicles and all the rivers were in shape. Due to the Seattle area rivers being closed because of lack of returning fish, most steelheaders have set up shop in Forks. Wash Fish and Game still allows killing of wild steelhead on rivers in the Olympic Peninsula and they wonder why they have lost stocks in other rivers that were managed the same way before the closures. Makes me sick - but that is another topic. |
Fishing was good - I managed to hook fish on the Hoh, Boggy, and Sol Duc. For the week I fished big rabbit and marabou and intruder type flies in purple, black & blue (called Mike Tyson), fucia and Pink. I hooked 10 fish all on the swing - Nymphing is not steelhead flyfishing (to me). Here are a couple photos of what they looked like. Overall, it was a good trip, but if you want solitude - not the place to go.
