Dan... In my mind, "carrying" describes the amount of line during the false casts and "shooting" is what happens AFTER the final false cast is made. I chose to call the whole thing "casting". The only reason I distinguished between "carrying" and the complete cast was because Max mentioned total line grain weight which isn't much of a contributor when it comes to "shooting" line because as you said... "The caster carries the normal 40 to 45 feet of line". It sounded to me as if Max was thinking that people were carrying 600 grains of fly line with a 5wt.
