I was 15 years old when Len hired me to work at the Millpond Fly Shop in 1973. In fact I remember being there the day the doors opened. Len was my first employer, my fly fishing mentor, and my good friend. His passing is deeply felt by many. Len brought class to Fly Fishing in the Bay Area when the Millpond was the premier fly shop in the land and many great fly fishermen started their passion for fly-fishing at that store. Len was a quiet man and understated. He knew and fished with the greatest fly fishermen of our time and he had the skills to back it up—a Marlin Grand Slam in the 70’s on flies and several world record fly caught Stripers in San Luis. But what I will miss most about him is his kindness and friendship all these years. I learned so much from him and I will miss fishing with him.
