I have been hearing a lot about Murray Cod from my Yank in Residence, Dave Witchy in Byron Bay. Known as Hotdog Dave, as he is a street hotdog vendor in this colorful Aussie town, and Dave is a master fly fisher and sends me many pictures of released cod and other OZ freshwater species that he, and his two young daughters, take on fly. You can look up the actual species name on Wikipedia. I thinks most of these fish are kind of like perch, related to Barramundi, Nile Perch, etc. I have caught hundreds of Australian Jungle Perch (Kuhlia Rupestrus) in streams in Samoa and Fiji. They love my cicada fly!
Fishing freshwater in OZ also has many other colorful perks, such as viewing amazing birdlife, snakes, lizards, and all mannor of wonderful critters. I am hoping to join Dave there one of these days. Good to see Oz fly guys taking care of their home species!
Tightlines, Louie
