No where in any of the comments made by Dave or me (or anyone) infer that we would berate a catch caught by trolling or using a take no prisoners leader. What we said basically was, that if the angler acknowledged the catch was taken by trolling or using a hawser leader that we'd say "great catch" and give them a pat on the back. If he or she didn't and then through omission tried to infer that it was a rule-legal catch and rated it equal to one that actually was, we might call them on it.
This isn't about competition per say and I think you know it. It's about doing it right and acknowledging the difference; and the skills that it takes to do it one way over the other.
It certainly isn't a parallel to the old debate of what's fly fishing - dry, wet, nymph or streamer and so on. It's a completely different thing. It is also not about elitism. It's about not reducing the sport to a point where no skill is needed and the sport is reduced to mediocrity.
Personally, I couldn't care less how someone catches a fish so long as it doesn't break the law. But I do like to know how the catch was made and I don't like comparing apples to prunes and calling them the same...
