"And finally, remember this is a sport, not a matter of simply hooking and bringing to hand a fish no matter the technique."

It's probably worth pointing out that not everyone fishes (whether with a fly rod or otherwise) because they consider themselves to be in competition with other anglers.

Sometimes they do it merely because it is pleasurable activity, and they occasionally find camaraderie in the company of others while doing so.

If it is for an IGFA record, then, by all means - play by the rules.

But to insist that everyone must be a competitor, and be so at all times - feh!

i can not imagine in the least little bit how another angler's report of a (so called) "ill gotten" fish - or any fish that they caught, for that matter - can degrade my enjoyment of (memories of) fish that i have caught (or will catch), or degrade my pleasure at being on the water... unless what i am fishing for is not the fish themselves, or the pleasure of the moment - but rather some kind of social standing.

Neither of those viewpoints are better or worse than the other - but it is worth noting that only one of them seeks to exclude the other.

PS To be complete, i note that Carl's post which led off this thread, and Steve's post which followed, were both completely clear about what they were doing - and never mentioned a thing about records. What i read was that they had a really great time. Way to go, guys!
