Hey Bob,

I'm using .030 lead wire and I wrap back over the first layer, as you noted, about a third to half way. This provides a little more weight aft which helps the fly dart more. You can also weight the fly the same way Dave Sellers is now doing by tying on a piece of solder, extending it a bit past the bend. I don't count the wraps but just try to cover the length of the hook shank leaving enough room to tie in the tail and wing materials.

I wrap the lead around a piece of 60 to 80 pound mono.

It was good seeing you and Ruth up at the SB and on the water. Did Ruthie out fish you again? Grin...

Another top fly for me and my anglers was the white/yellow/brown jig hook FT Whistler in size 1/0. Like I said, they wanted a little smaller fly.
