Hey Gang
The proceeds from Striperfest 2007 were approximately $11,000. This year's proceeds are very similar to the past two years.
Thanks to the Striperfest participants (both onsite and offsite) who generously bought $11,000 worth of raffle tickets. The dinner was break-even and the tshirt tally is not yet in but is expected to be break-even.
It is an honor to associate with a bunch of fine anglers who respect the fishery by practicing catch-and-release and who also invest in the future of the fishery by supporting the raffle. It is also an honor to honor Dan Blanton as the facilitator of this fine community.
Striperfest continues to be the largest and most lucrative fundraiser on the West Coast benefiting our beleaguered striped bass.
The prize winners would do all of us proud by contacting the prize donors and expressing thanks for each donation. If you need to identify the donor of your prize, please contact Jay Remley (baumpy@hotmail.com).
The Striperfest proceeds wil be put to good use. We will continue our grants to youth flyfishing, particularly programs that actually get kids out on the water - fishing. We will also continue our grants to strategic legal actions, such as those by Earthjustice and the Natural Resources Defense Council, whose Delta Smelt case resulted in the unprecedented cutback in pumping rates from the Delta. Our legal plate continues to fill, with contemplated actions on behalf of the wardens and contemplated defense of the Department of Fish and Game's and the Fish & Game Commission's historic actions to benefit striped bass. We will also be implementing an educational campaign for the general public to counteract outrageous claims by selected water contractors that striped bass are the cause of the pelagic organism decline.
As always, if you have any comments or questions or if you have suggestions about how we should spend our funds, feel free to contact me (doug@fishfirst.com, 510-520-3146).
Cheers
