Glad to hear you had another good trip to Ganglers. I know we all go up north with visions of trophy pike that push 40 inches and better; but hey, those medium all purpose pike (I like to call them "axe-handles" once they get past "hammer-handle" size) are really what makes pike fishing special cuz they often bite all day and when conditions allow for a visual strike, their grab is every bit as spectacular as the big'uns. And really when you come down to it, the grab is what we fish for and pike may just about have the best grab there is!

I just got back myself from a few days of piking at Cold Lake on the AB/Sask border. It's only halfway up to the 60th parallel- and accessible by blacktop within a three drive of a couple hundred thousand anglers so it's hard to call Cold lake "up north" by Ganglers/ Scott Lake standards, but hey, the pike are numerous and just as feisty though the truly big ones are fewer and farther between, just too many len thompsons to avoid while growing up in the central Alberta lakes. Anyways, the weather was great which allowed for visual fishing and the axe-handle pike were just clobbering brightly coloured streamers. One morning they hit gurglers on top with reckless abandon as well to cap off a very successful piking trip.

Pike have "teeth and an attitude" and that suits me just fine!
