Man-o-man that northern country is cool stuff. I have never in my life experienced such a vast amount of lakes and rivers in one area. When flying over the country you can virtually see thousands of bodies of water! Amazing.
The fishing kept us busy for sure. Some days we had them on "a fish a cast"... other days we really had to work for every grab. Pike are a great gamefish. Excellent on the fly. Walleye were another fun grab especially near the river mouths (with pike chasing them!). The lakers were slow, but still found a way to hammer Dan's fly. Jeez bud that was something else to see that wire leader all coiled from a huge laker.
We didn't cast to any grayling because the weather knocked down those plans. But, others in the lodge did get their chances and caught plenty of beauties. Perfect targets for dryfly action with small brown caddis and midges.
I loved the wildlife. Moose, wolves, bear, caribou, beaver, eagles... and yup... mucho mosquitos!
Dan thanks for sharing the Canadian northlands with me pal. It was indeed an adventure and one I'll never forget. Cheers, Ken |
