I'll probably screw this story up, but...........

A few years ago I was fishing with Rick Pope and asked him about the genesis of TFO. He told me that he had lent a fairly expensive rod to a friend for a destination fishing trip. His friend accidentally broke the rod. He promised Rick he'd fix it. The warranty work was expensive and it took an unreasonable amount of time. No one was happy about this because Rick's friend felt that had he known the warranty was so expensive and would take so long, he would have never borrowed the rod and Rick realized that had he needed the rod for a trip of his own, he'd have been out of luck.

However, as every entrepreneur knows, a good business idea is often born out of addressing someone's "pain". The opportunity was clear. Build a quality, affordable rod with quick warranty repair service. - As an aside, many people have mistakenly thought that the ferrules on some "models" of TFO rods do not go together all the way as they are of a different color than the rod itself (usually grey). What is actually going on there is the break through that allows for an affordable and quick warranty turn around. Any broken piece of a given rod weight multi-piece TFO rod can be swapped out with a brand new piece kept in stock. Nothing has to be custom made to the broken rod. This allows for same day service, which is the solution to the warranty problem that contributed greatly to the development and success of TFO. -

Anyway, I have never been anything but impressed with TFO service as well and thought maybe someone might like to know the genesis.....or at least my memory of the story.
