I like 30 lb Dacron, either the Cortland or SA stuff,,,,, I started using two colors of backing. I usually put about 100 yds of brightly colored backing (orange or yellow) over top of 100 yds of white. I use Bimini loops in the backing to connect everything. With the two color system, I know for sure now when a fish has done an honest 100 yd run,,,,, which has yet to happen on a bonefish or permit for me!

Yes, the brighter backings do discolor the back end of the odd flyline, but that doesn't affect the line's performance,,, small price to pay in my books for being able to track the what the fish is doing.
