Good point Peter! I've watched a half dozen squid for a while when snorkling in Eleuthera Bahamas and your observation is correct. One particular thing that I noticed about their movement was that they spent near as much time swimming backwards as forwards. That would be an interesting motion to attempt to capture with a fly. Phil, I imagine that with some strategic weighting on the tail (hook) end of the fly, combined with it's articulating body could result in a very innovative action.
