Not an expert bit it seems to me that even tho the weight of the head would appear to match your rods grain window, as you shorten the length of the head the timing changes and speeds up the casting stroke. At some point, the only reliable cast would appear to be a lob, regardless of weight. I'm not sure where that point my be for your rod but it sounds like some testing is in order....
