Hey Ralph,
Great article!
I grew up fishing the McGinty for trout. In fact, it was one of the first flies I learned to tie. It was tough getting the mallard feather, with the white tips, tied in before they split apart. It is still a major part of my terrestrial arsenal, and has been the "go to" fly on many occasions! I recall one trip to Lake of The Woods, off of 89, and the yellowjackets were everywhere. It was early spring, with snow still on the ground, and my Dad and I lost track of the trout caught that trip. The McGinty "bee" was the ticket.
Thanks again, Ralph. Nice to revisit an old standard.
