Thanks Jon. I can't take credit for it - I think I read about making a simple light box on a photography board somewhere. Anyway, I think the original post Dan was searching for was hidden in a post about balsa pencil poppers back in 2010. Here's the link:

The box is just a cardboard box with the sides and top cut out. Cover the sides and top with white tissue paper to get defused light. Catch the fly in the loop, then put the box in the sunlight (I haven't found the best artificial lights that keep the colors true yet). Put your camera on macro, set it as close to the front of the box (I use a little gorilla tripod) and snap away. I use the timer function on my little point & shoot to prevent camera shake from my finger pushing the shutter.
