I just finally sat down from a long week of work & fishing and decided to do some catching up! Here it goes!!
Delta Fishing Sunday, March 4th
I decided to start the week off fishing with my good friend, Bruce "Golden Tarpon" Mckay and see if we could find some fish. We were on the water by 7am to an out- going tide, that I thought would produce some nice keeps from our trip last week, but it only gave us one 18 incher!! We had to find new water, plus we had to deal with all the boaters, both Bass guys and joy riders, which was a real hassle!!! We ended the day with 2 keepers, one largemouth and 9 under size (a couple close-to-keepers but they didn't make the cut!!!)
Trout fishing Wednesday, March 7th
I had to do some work up north but had about 4 hours to kill, so I decided that I would go jump in some rivers and see what happened! WOW! If this is any indication of what opening day is going to be like, this might be my 1st season that I don't hunt for Stripers all year round!! I nailed about 2 dozen on mostly dries with a couple of them taking small Red PT's and the dries being Stoneflies, parachute Adams & parachute BWO's. Most of them were keepers, which was great because I just got a new 5wt Red Truck fly rod to Demo, and it threw perfect with a 6wt Rio Gold!!
Delta Fishing Friday March 9th
I had been promising my friend Evan Crawford (some of you might have remembered him from working at CA Fly) a Striper trip for sometime now so, with good weather & even better tides, we decided to give it a try. The morning started off rough with only giving up a 4 lber & a dink in the 1st 3 hours! There was no way I was going to practice my casting all day over water that had no fish, so I decided to take off to better waters. There were a few pumps running which gave up one keeper but it wasn't until our next stop that we found a few quality fish giving up a 6 & another 4 lber with a largemouth to boot. The weather was perfect with no wind and perfect skies!!! On the way back wee got a little of a dusk bite and called it a day!!! A
