Ed suffered that stroke about a week before heading up Alaska for a two week fishing trip with my father and grandfather. He was one of the most interesting men I have ever had the opportunity to have met. His years after the stroke in 1999 were very sad since he was severely debilitated.
He lived in Yarmouth, Maine with my Aunt and grand parents until he passed. There were brief moments when he seemed to be like the man I had met in 1996 but they were rare.
If there is anything good to say about his death, it is that he passed in his sleep in 2008. He really was such a nice man. His two kids still live in California. I never had an opportunity to discuss fishing much with him or his graphic arts career which is unfortunate since that was what I ended up doing for work. He had this warm exterior and a cherubic wit that was infectious and really made you want to just listen to whatever he had to say. To have a person with such a lust for life cut down by a stroke of the severity he suffered is truly tragic.
If you have anything you would like to know, just ask. I'll pass on to my Aunt that there are those who still remember Ed fondly. |
