Thanks for the clarification. I is neat. If you tie the fibers reverse to the direction the fly is supposed to move, then you end up with even more push.
I have been stacking slinky fibers for a while in a similar fashion one makes yarn pom pom. You get a lot of volume and indeed you can trim it the way you want it. Basically you end up with the same bulk as stacking deer hair but without the stiffness.
By having half the pom pom trimmed towards the curve direction, you end up having all the fibers pointing towards the eyelet. If you use very soft materials, then the fibers will naturally be pushed towards the curve of the hook. Using stiffer materials will make the fly rise up and wiggles more.
