I second Stan's idea of practicing hauls while false casting without actually casting the line. Taking the distraction of casting and retrieving out of the equation and concentrating on repeated hauls seem to develop the muscle memory and sense of timing quicker. One other trick is to first work on backcast hauls only. After a good bit of practice switch to hauling on the forward cast only. Then put it together.
