Mel had a way about him that does come across on the DVD/video/book. I was lucky enough to have Mel teach me to cast at the GGACC. I'm sure Amazon has the video. I assume you are new to fly casting so my first question is do you have a balanced system? Stopping by a fly shop with your setup would allow someone with experience to evaluate it and rule out equipment failure. While you are there you can ask if him/her to show you the dbl haul or perhaps suggest someone to give you a lesson. Most fly shops have someone who gives lessons to their customers. Then practice practice and practice some more. Practice in the wind when you think you have it down windless. As Mel would say, I envy you. You are at the beginning of a wonderful journey.
