I agree. I had lessons from some of the great casters when I used to go to the Conclaves at West Yellowstone. Maggie Merriman (sp?) got me the closest, but then I bought Mel's tape (at the time, now DVD) and his down-up/down-up exercises without the rod is what did it for me. Now I unconsciously do it even when I have a three-weight in my hand and am making 25' casts.
